I’m running for legislature because Nebraskans are hard-working, honest, and caring people. Our Legislature is supposed to be independent and put Nebraskans above partisan politics. The current Legislature doesn’t represent that anymore. It’s controlled by wealthy donors and politicians who want to divide us. I’ll work to bring people together and restore common-sense solutions to the challenges we face everyday.
I grew up here in Nebraska. I moved away for career opportunities but chose to come back 18 years ago to start a family and build a successful business. As your state senator, I’ll apply the same lessons used to build our company: listen, collaborate, and put in the work to get results. I will ensure that your family has every opportunity to be successful in Nebraska, just like mine.
I am a 5th-generation Nebraskan who grew up on a cow-calf ranch near Bartlett, in Wheeler County. I co-founded Vivayic, Inc. in 2006 in Lincoln, where we employ 55 people. I am a founding member of Neighbors United Methodist Church, Past Treasurer of the Nebraska FFA Foundation, and Member of the NE Farm Bureau. My wife, Carrie, and I have been married for 18 years. We have two sons and live in northwest Lincoln.
I understand that the combination of rapidly increasing property valuations and inflation are hurting Nebraska families, farmers, and businesses. I will promote legislation that addresses tax relief in a way that doesn’t just shift taxes from out-of-state corporations onto everyday Nebraskans.
As a classroom agriculture teacher, I have developed the skills of young people and I know that this happens daily in the high-quality public schools across Nebraska. I will tirelessly support investment in our public schools, in early childhood education, and in effective workforce development programs to ensure every Nebraskan gets the education and training they need to succeed and prosper in our great state.
As an employer and a business owner, I know that there are few other benefits that are as important to workers as healthcare coverage. I believe all Nebraskans should have access to affordable healthcare and privacy in those healthcare decisions. I will work to lower the costs of prescriptions, protect patients from surprise bills and hidden fees, and increase access to mental health services.
I know firsthand what it takes to grow a successful business that provides good-paying jobs for dozens of people. I understand that good paying jobs allow us to provide for our families and invest in our communities. I will work to promote more opportunities for entrepreneurship and support legislation that attracts, develops, and retains talent needed for growing business.
I believe we all deserve to feel safe in our own homes. I support police officers and firefighters and will fight for them to have competitive pay and benefits. I support the acquisition of equipment and technology to ensure every community has fully capable police and fire departments.
I have deep roots and strong ties to agriculture. Nebraska is uniquely positioned to continue to be a global leader in sustainably feeding a growing planet. I will be a strong advocate for agricultural innovation and technology.
I believe honesty and integrity are crucial characteristics of leaders and will embody those principles if elected. I will be a strong proponent of accountability and transparency in state government to ensure our resources are being used ethically and efficiently.
I have an “old school” belief that government is necessary but should be limited. Providing for the common good - roads, safety, education - and caring for the most vulnerable Nebraskans is a public enterprise. I believe public institutions are essential to the success of our state but they cannot solve every challenge. We must all also fulfill our individual responsibilities for our communities to thrive.
I have committed to live by the values instilled in me by my family, community, and faith: work hard, play fair, treat everyone with respect, serve others, and be a role model for those to come.
